The Nutcracker ballet is a holiday tradition around the world, and it’s coming with a fun twist at the Houston Ballet’s Nutcracker Market, right here in Houston. Over the years, this market has turned into Texas’ signature fundraising and shopping holiday event. Now in its 37th year, the market is sure to be a very popular event. After all, those from Houston and the surrounding areas have already attended 36 of these annual events.
Where and When
The Houston Ballet Nutcracker Market goes from Nov. 9 to 12, which is a Thursday to Sunday. General admission is from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., but early bird admission starts at 8:30 a.m. The event will be held at the NRG Center, where there is more than enough room for all the vendors and shoppers. Because of space issues, rolling bags, rolling carts, strollers, wagons, and pets are not allowed in the market. Of course, wheelchairs and walkers are welcome.
If you buy your ticket before Nov. 3, you can get an early-bird ticket and beat the rush. With this $50 ticket, you are able to enter the market at 8:30 a.m. on both Thursday and Friday, a full hour and a half before the doors open. That ticket is still good for all four days. If you don’t want an early bird ticket, you can buy your ticket right at the market for $20, but you must pay in cash. If you forget, there are ATMs in the lobby plus more in the market. If you prefer, you can get a ticket in advance at a Houston-area Randalls or at Ticketmaster. Those tickets are only good for a single day of admission. You can also save some money by getting there three hours before closing for half-price admission. Children under five years old get in for free.
Find Hundreds of Merchants
No matter the type of shopping you want to do, the Nutcracker Market can easily deliver. There are more than 280 merchants, meaning you will be able to find nearly anything. Just some of the items you can buy at the market include pottery, ornaments, toiletries, toys, clothing, home décor, novelties, pewter, and accessories. There is also plenty of food for sale so that you can keep up your energy while shopping.
Also a Fundraiser
In addition to your chance to buy holiday presents or something special, the Houston Ballet Nutcracker Market is also a fundraiser. The proceeds of special event tickets and admission tickets bought all go directly to the Houston Ballet Foundation. Additionally, 10 percent of the merchandise purchased goes toward the foundation.
