Did you know that the third largest parade in the county happens right here in Houston? It’s the MLK Grande Parade, and only the Macy’s Day Parade and the Rose Parade are bigger. The 25th Annual MLK Grande Parade will be on Jan. 21 from 10 a.m. to noon. It originates on Elgin Street and San Jacinto Street and runs through Midtown. Join hundreds of thousands of others in Midtown and watch this parade go by.

About the Parade

This year’s theme is “It Takes a Village,” and it is going to be a celebration like no other. Prestigious marching bands will roll out, providing the beat for the celebration. Various performing groups will march along, and there will be some magnificent floats. This parade always does an amazing job of honoring Martin Luther King, Jr.’s legacy, and this year likely be even bigger and better than before.

MLK Youth Parade 2019

The MLK Grande Parade might be the main event, but you’ll also want to check out the 13th Annual MLK Youth Parade – Houston. This parade will roll out at noon on Jan. 19. It’s organized by the same group that puts on the MLK Grande Parade and originates from the same location. The youth parade also has marching bands and floats, along with a very powerful message. The young people of today are the future, so people need to go out and celebrate them.

MLK Battle of the Bands 2019

The MLK Battle of the Bands 2019 will be on Jan. 20 from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. at W.W. Thorne Stadium. Stop by to watch 18 bands battle it out. You will also see exhibition performances. You know these bands are amazing in parades. Just wait until you see what they can do on the football field.
