Your kids waited for summer to arrive all school year. Now, it’s finally here, and they are bored. They want something fun to fill their days, so a trip to the Downtown Aquarium in Houston is in order. Tickets are $12.99 for adults and $10.99 for seniors. Children under 42 inches get in for $9.99, and kids aged two and under are admitted for free. You can save some extra money by going on Tuesdays. On Tuesdays until Aug. 27, you can buy one admission and get one free.
Here are some tips to follow, so you can get the most out of your family adventure.
Bring Extra Money
Be prepared to spend a little extra money when you visit the aquarium. You can see lots of cool exhibits with your general admission ticket, but you will have to pay extra for the Shark Voyage, Aquatic Carousel, and other activities. If you only choose one, make it the Shark Voyage. Where else can your family ride through a huge shark tank? You’ll get to see all kinds of species up close, and it is well worth the extra $5.99.
Set Aside Enough Time
This aquarium is huge, so you will want to set aside enough time to see it all. Otherwise, you will end up buying a ticket once again. The first floor alone will likely take an entire hour to get through. This floor is set up with viewing tanks that start at the floor and reach the ceiling. The tanks are filled with sea horses, lizards, alligators, snakes, fish, and other marine life. There are even Bengal tigers. The tigers here are pretty active and ready to put on a show when people view them. You’ll want to snap some photos before moving onto the next exhibit.
Attend an Event
Did you know the aquarium also hosts events? The next one is right around the corner on July 29. It’s Tiger Day, and this one will likely draw a huge crowd. The event is included with the price of admission, and it will feature animal encounters and a keeper chat. If your kids love tigers, you won’t want to miss this.
You can even attend an event geared to adults. The aquarium is hosting Latin Beats on Friday nights through Aug. 9. Professional dancers will teach you how to dance the salsa.
