Moody Gardens is one of the many fun attractions close to Houston, Texas, and a must-visit during the holiday season. You definitely want to make sure you plan a visit to Moody Gardens at some point before their holiday season ends, whether or not you have kids.
Times and Pricing
Moody Gardens is open for the holiday season between Nov. 11 and Jan. 7. If you visit between Sunday and Thursday from Nov. 12 to Dec. 14, these are value days (except Thanksgiving). On value days, Ice Land is open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., and the Festival Lights are open from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Admission is $21.95 for adults and $16.95 for children and seniors for Ice Land or $10.95 for the Festival of Lights.
Other days of the week, Ice Land opens at 10 a.m. and costs $26.95 for adults or $21.95 for children and seniors. The Festival of Lights opens at 6 p.m. and costs $15.95. Both attractions close at 11 p.m. on regular days. The only exceptions to the hours are Thanksgiving and Christmas days when everything still closes at 11 p.m. but Ice Land doesn’t open until 12 p.m. There are also discounts if you book both attractions together, and you can do an add-on attraction for $9 each for adults or $7 for children and seniors.
The main attractions at Moody Gardens are Ice Land and the Festival of Lights. This year’s theme for Ice Land is Rainforest Holiday, so you will get to see birds, butterflies, orchids, monkeys, leaves, and more carved from ice. There is even a giant ice slide and ancient ruins. The Festival of Lights is a one-mile trail with over a million lights and various scenes. It also includes the only outdoor skating rink in the area.
The options for additional attractions are seemingly limitless. You can explore the Rainforest Pyramid, Aquarium Pyramid, Discovery Museum, Paddlewheel Boat, SpongeBob SubPants Adventure, 4D Special FX Theater, MG 3D Theater, Zip Line, or Ropes Course.
Attend on Opening Day
If you are free on Saturday, Nov. 11, opening day is one of the best times to go to Moody Gardens. There will be live entertainment for free. You will even get to see Santa parachute in. Those festivities go from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.
Plan Now for the VIP Carver Experience
For those who want to see how the ice gets carved, there is a VIP Ice Carver Experience that is $179 for members or $199 for those who aren’t members. That price not only includes your experience on any date before Nov. 5, but also includes a ticket to come back for both the Ice Land and Festival of Lights. During the VIP Carver Experience, you get to watch the ice carvers create their magic, get lunch with the team, and meet a penguin. Tickets are very limited.
