The run begins Nov. 24, the Friday immediately after Thanksgiving, and goes until Saturday, Dec. 30. Showtimes depend on the day of the week, but tickets are as low as $28 each. During the opening weekend, shows are Friday, Saturday, and Sunday at 2:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. After this, there are performances on Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays at 7:30 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays both offer performances at either 2:30 p.m. or 7:30 p.m. Starting Tuesday, Dec. 19, performances are extended, including one at 2:30 p.m. and another at 7:30 p.m. most days, with the exception of Christmas Day. The play will be at the Hubbard Theatre.

“A Christmas Carol” by Charles Dickens

In “A Christmas Carol,” you get to experience the retelling of Charles Dickens’s classic work brought to life on stage. You will follow Ebenezer Scrooge’s interactions with a series of three ghostly spirits visiting him on Christmas Eve. The play, like the story, is about redemption and the holiday spirit. This is a seasonal favorite, and Michael Wilson adapted it and originally directed it. James Black will direct this run. Because of the positive messages, the performance should be good for general audiences of six years old and older. Those younger than this are unlikely to stay focused on the plot.

Get to Know Alley Theatre

Alley Theatre is a leading not-for-profit theatre in the country, meaning it fits in a unique category. Because it is not for profit, the tickets are reasonably priced, making performances accessible to the entire community. The theatre’s resident company is led by Managing Director Dean R. Gladden with Artistic Director Gregory Boyd.

In the 2015 to 2016 season alone, the theatre had 500 performances, more than every single other performing arts organization within Houston’s Theater District combined. Alley Theatre has been in Houston for 70 years, and the current building has been part of it since 1968. Before this, performances were in a space that was a dance studio during the day. From the dance studio, it moved to an abandoned fan factory before finally moving into the current building.
